For 25 years, the Watson Health™ 100 Top Hospitals® (formerly the Truven Health Analytics® 100 Top Hospitals) program has conducted studies to uncover the impact of organizational leadership on performance in non-federal, acute care US hospitals (other exclusions apply). The study uses a national balanced scorecard, public data and transparent risk adjustment and analytics to quantify hospital performance.
The Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals study analyzes performance in 11 areas: inpatient mortality; 30-day mortality rate; complications; core measures; 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate; severity-adjusted average length of stay; mean emergency room throughput; inpatient expense per discharge; Medicare spend per beneficiary; adjusted operating profit margin; and patient rating of overall hospital performance. The study has been conducted annually since 1993
