National Healthcare Corp. announced this week that it recently added four properties in Missouri as it expands operations in the state.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn.-based provider of long-term care and post-acute-care services assumed management of a skilled-nursing center in Des Peres Feb. 1. And as of March 1, NHC began leasing and operating two healthcare facilities in Independence. One is a skilled-nursing center and assisted-living community and the other is a memory-care center. Also as of March 1, NHC started leasing and operating a skilled-nursing center, memory-care unit and assisted-living community in St. Peters.

"NHC is extremely pleased to add these operations to our Missouri portfolio," NHC President Steve Flatt said in a release. "These centers have all been constructed within the past six years and are located in excellent markets."

NHC, which is publicly traded, announced its year-end financial results late last month. For the year ended Dec. 31, NHC's earnings were up compared to the prior year. Despite 2% sequestration cuts for Medicare providers, NHC saw its operating revenue rise 3.7% to $789 million.
