A new testing tool to help providers meet the EHR
incentive payment program's Stage 2 meaningful-use
criteria is now available.
The criteria are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The CMS and HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced the launch of the new tool, called the Randomizer, which was developed with the help of the National Institute for Science and Technology.
To use it, though, providers must register at the NIST website
Messages must conform to the Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture developed by the standards development organization, Health Level Seven. Test instructions are available on the federal website, HealthIT.gov
Stage 2 requires hospitals, physicians and other eligible professionals to either exchange a summary of care documents with another provider with an EHR developed by a software maker different than their own, or conduct one or more tests of such an exchange using a CMS-designated testing tool.
