What it does: CTG Health Solutions is a consulting firm that works to improve implementation of electronic health-record systems, facilitating integration of EHRs, ensuring security and optimizing software management. It's part of Computer Task Group, which offers industry-specific IT staffing and systems services.

How it grew to become one of healthcare's hottest: Computer Task Group's healthcare services have been the fastest-growing part of its business for the past five years, and CTG points to the aging baby boomer population as well as healthcare reform and incentives as drivers for the growth.

While some of the firm's customer hospitals have had to make layoffs or delayed implementation of EHR systems, executives see growth potential as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act rolls out.

“Physicians will have to provide a lot more care but have to be more cost-effective,” creating the need for more sophisticated clinical and financial IT systems, says Brendan Harrington, CTG's senior vice president and chief financial officer.
