A coalition of health companies and advocates plans to reach out to Ohioans about the federal healthcare law during 28 events around the state this weekend.

Enroll America spokeswoman Jessica Barba Brown says the group's volunteers will knock on doors, host house parties and make phone calls at gatherings in Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Faith-based groups and food banks are expected to join in the coalition's efforts.

The events in Ohio are part of larger a coordinated push to raise awareness about getting covered under the law.

Consumers can get private health insurance, subsidized by the government, through the new health insurance exchange created by President Barack Obama's healthcare law. Open enrollment starts Oct. 1, and coverage takes effect in January.
