A Cleveland-area man accused of overbilling
Medicaid and
Medicare by more than $1 million has been sentenced to two years in prison after his conviction on federal healthcare
fraud charges.
Attorney General Mike DeWine says 39-year-old Divyesh Patel also was sentenced this week to pay $1.9 million in restitution to the
Ohio Department of Medicaid.
The owner and president of Alpine Nursing Care in North Randall pleaded guilty in April to one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and four counts of healthcare fraud.
Authorities say Patel and an employee conspired to defraud Medicaid by billing for healthcare services never provided or improperly billed between June 1, 2006, and October 18, 2009.
Patel's employee was convicted on related charges and will be sentenced next month.
