Vincent Caponi has been named executive chairman of the board for St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis and senior VP of Ascension Health Alliance, the St. Louis-based Catholic health system that sponsors St. Vincent Health.

Effective July 1, Caponi, 62, will transition from his current roles as CEO of St. Vincent Health, which he has held since 1998, and Ascension Health Ministry Market Leader for Indiana, which he took on in 2007. Caponi was also named Ministry Market Leader for Wisconsin in 2011.

“It has been an honor and privilege to lead the St. Vincent Health system and serve patients and families across Indiana, and I look forward to providing support in my new capacity at the board level,” Caponi said in a release. “As the national healthcare environment requires transformational change, I look forward to working with the Ascension Health Alliance to simplify our systems, standardize our clinical processes, and ensure that medical information is provided at the right time and the right place for patients.”

Ian Worden, 60, currently COO for St. Vincent Health, will serve as interim CEO of the not-for-profit system. Dr. Michael Schatzlein, 62, president and CEO of St. Thomas Health in Nashville and Ascension Health Ministry Market Leader for Tennessee, will add the Ministry Market Leader responsibilities for Indiana.
