Prime Healthcare Services has agreed to pay $275,000 to settle a federal patient privacy case.

The Los Angeles Times says the Ontario-based hospital chain didn't acknowledge any wrongdoing in the settlement announced Tuesday.

The case involved allegations that Prime Healthcare and its Shasta Regional Medical Center improperly shared a woman's medical files with reporters and sent an email about her treatment to nearly 800 hospital employees. The hospital was responding to a story involving allegations that it overbilled Medicare.

California regulators fined the chain $95,000 last year for unauthorized disclosure of medical information. The company is appealing that fine.
