Chicago, April 27, 2013: Modern Healthcare has announced the recipients of our 2013 CEO IT Achievement Awards:
• John Bluford, president and CEO of Truman Medical Centers, Kansas City, Mo.
• Dr. Narendra Kini, president and CEO, Miami Children's Hospital
The awards, co-sponsored by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), recognize healthcare CEOs who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to using IT to advance their organizations' goals. A five-judge panel consisting of three former CEO IT honorees and two chief information officers selected by HIMSS evaluated the achievements of nominees submitted by Modern Healthcare readers. Bluford and Kini join the 26 other CEOs who have earned this honor since its creation in 2003.
“Information technology has become integral to the practice of modern medicine and will play a crucial role in achieving the objectives of creating the higher quality, lower cost healthcare system of the future,” said Merrill Goozner, editor of Modern Healthcare. “Successful implementation of IT within any organization requires a champion at the highest levels of leadership.”
In making their recommendation of Dr. Narendra Kini, judges cited his “superlative patient engagement strategy and advocacy efforts at the state level,” as well as “an innovative approach to utilizing smartphone applications to improve patient care and business processes.” Bluford also received a very strong endorsement from the judges: “He is a national figure in the U.S. hospital industry and has utilized this national platform to support the advancement of IT utilization within the hospital industry.”
Modern Healthcare will profile this year's recipients in a special section that will appear in the Monday, June 3 issue of the magazine.
