Seton Healthcare Family, a not-for-profit healthcare provider based in Austin, Texas, and a member of Ascension Health, has named Jesus Garza its CEO, effective July 1.

Garza, 60, will also start providing oversight of Ascension’s Arizona ministry, Carondelet Health Network, and continue serving as the ministry market leader for Ascension Health in Texas. Garza, who has more than two decades of experience in public administration and private executive management, first joined Seton in 2002 as president of University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin. He has been serving as president and interim CEO of the system since January 2012, when former President and CEO Charles Barnett took a leave of absence to become president of healthcare operations and COO for Ascension Health in St. Louis. Barnett had been president and CEO of Seton since 1993.

Seton’s board and Ascension’s parent organization, Ascension Health Alliance, have also appointed him to a new role with the organization. Also effective July 1, Barnett, 64, will begin serving as executive board chair of the Seton Healthcare Family board of trustees.
