Virginia Hospital Center, a teaching hospital associated with Georgetown University's School of Medicine, has appointed Dr. Russell McWey, currently chief of medical imaging, to VP and chief information officer.

In his new role, McWey, 62, will help manage hospital strategy, information technology and hospital information systems. McWey, who is board certified in nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology, has been on staff at the Arlington, Va., hospital for two and a half decades. Before that, he served in the U.S. Naval submarine service as a nuclear engineer and line officer.

“Due to Dr. McWey's impressive background in electrical engineering and his longtime relationship with Virginia Hospital Center, we are excited to have him step into his new position as chief information officer,” James Cole, president and CEO, said in a release. “Dr. McWey brings years of experience to the position and we are confident he will excel in leading the technologically driven aspects of our organization.”
