The Health Information Trust Alliance, Frisco, Texas, in reaction to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, has established a working group to address cybersecurity.

HITrust's announcement comes after a White House executive order on cybersecurity that was issued by the president Feb. 12. The Cybersecurity Working Group plans to create sets of standards, methodologies, procedures and processes that would align policy, business and technological approaches to combat online security risks.

“There is no doubt in my mind that the sharing of cyber threat information and coordinated incident response has benefited both industry and government,” said HITrust CEO Daniel Nutkis in a news release. “Leaders in industry and government deserve credit for recognizing the importance of this effort, and working to establish and enhance a model through the (HITrust Cyber Threat Intelligence and Incident Coordination Center) for collaboration, information sharing and threat response.”

The executive order calls for companies to actively address the security risks that come with sharing data between governmental and private industry organizations and to reduce those risks by better identifying weaknesses in security.

HITrust is a consortium of health plans, providers, pharmacy benefit managers, IT vendors and data-miners that formed in 2007 to address healthcare data-security issues.
