Dr. Terry McGeeney, the founding president and CEO of TransforMED, the American Academy of Family Physicians' medical home consulting subsidiary, has stepped down from his post. Dr. Bruce Bagley, AAFP director for quality improvement, has been appointed interim president and CEO.

TransforMEd was launched in 2005. It has since assisted almost 8,000 practices in adopting the patient-centered medical home model, which emphasizes coordinated care, increased access, continuous quality improvement and a “whole-person orientation.”

“It has been my profound pleasure to start with the seed of an idea that was TransforMED and build it to be the preeminent change facilitator for practices to the patient-centered medical home,” McGeeney said in a news release.

“We are enormously grateful to Dr. McGeeney for his conceptual skills in developing patient-centered medical homes, and helping physicians throughout the nation implement this promising concept,” said Dr. William Soper, TransforMED executive board chairman, in the release. “As an entrepreneur, Dr. McGeeney has firmly grounded the company and staked its claim as the premier agent of change for medical practice and organization transformation.”

Before leading TransforMED, McGeeney was the medical director of the McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa.
