Dr. Denton Cooley, Sister M. Maurita Sengelaub and Donald Wegmiller have been chosen as the latest inductees into
Modern Healthcare's Health Care Hall of Fame.
Cooley, 92, is a pioneer in heart surgery who performed the first successful human heart transplant in 1968. A year later, he performed the first successful implantation of an artificial heart as a bridge before transplantation. Cooley was the founder of the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston.
Sengelaub, 94, began her career in healthcare in 1940 as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. From 1970 to 1977, she was president of the Catholic Hospital Association (now the Catholic Health Association) and the first woman to hold that position.

Wegmiller, 74, was CEO of a Minneapolis hospital system that grew and evolved into an innovator in integrated care, becoming Allina Health System in 1993. Wegmiller then stepped aside to lead a consulting firm that is now Integrated Healthcare Strategies.
The three healthcare leaders will be profiled in the March 11 issue of Modern Healthcare. They will be honored at a
ceremony March 10 at the Hilton Chicago in conjunction with the American College of Healthcare Executives' 2013 Congress on Healthcare Leadership.

They will join 92 others who have been inducted into the
