Select Medical, Mechanicsburg, Pa., has named Dr. Samuel Hammerman as CMO of its long-term acute-care hospital division.

In the newly created position, Hammerman will work with the medical directors of each of Select Medical's 110 LTAC hospitals as well as its existing national medical board, according to a spokesman.

Hammerman previously served as medical director for two Select Specialty hospitals in Pennsylvania. Most recently, he was director of pulmonary and critical care for Geisinger Health System, according to an e-mailed news release.

A pulmonologist and critical-care physician, Hammerman also is an adjunct clinical professor at Temple University School of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
