The University of Colorado Health system and Ivinson Memorial Hospital, a 90-bed institution in Laramie, Wyo., have entered in a management agreement effective Jan. 1. It is the first agreement UC Health has made with a hospital in Wyoming.

Under the agreement, which was signed in October, Ivinson will become a UC Health affiliate institution and Ivinson executives will become UC Health employees, but the hospital will remain an independent institution governed by the seven-member Albany County Hospital District board, according to a UC Health news release (PDF). No financial terms were disclosed.

It was noted in the release that this arrangement will allow the two organizations to share resources and expertise. Ivinson President and CEO Carol Dozier said in the release that the deal gives the hospital “still more muscle in meeting the special challenges of rural and community care.”

Dozier is now a UC Health employee, as are: Karl Vilums, chief financial officer; Linda Mink, chief compliance officer and vice president of clinical service line development; Sharon Gern, vice president and chief nursing officer; and Holly Zajic, vice president of human resources and physician services.

Ivinson and UC Health Institutions have collaborated in the past on cardiovascular, neurology and trauma and general surgery services, according to the release.

A $35 million construction project at Ivinson began Nov. 26, and includes a new dialysis center, a new patient tower with 30 private rooms, and renovation of operating rooms and expansion of the cafeteria.

UC Health was formed last January when the University of Colorado Hospital, a 437-bed institution in Aurora, entered into a joint-operating agreement with Poudre Valley Health System, which consists of the two-campus 238-bed Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, Colo.; and 136-bed Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colo. In October, voters in Colorado Springs, Colo., approved an almost $1.8 billion arrangement, which calls for UC Health to operate the assets of the city-owned Memorial Health System under a long-term lease.

The 10-physician Cheyenne (Wyo.) Medical Specialistsgroup joined UC Health's 170-provider Poudre Valley Medical Group back in May.
