The University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, has named Dr. Douglas Girod as executive vice chancellor, effective Feb. 1.

He replaces Dr. Steven Stites, acting executive vice chancellor, who took over for Dr. Barbara Atkinson after her announcement that she would be stepping down from the role.

Girod currently serves as senior associate dean for clinical affairs and has chaired the department of otolaryngology since 2002. He joined the medical center's faculty in 1994.

Before that, he served as vice chairman and research director in the department of otolaryngology at the Naval Medical Center, Oakland, Calif.
