Outliers noticed that since it's the most wonderful time of the year, emergency physicians are talking about a heart condition that they are calling “holiday heart,” and it's not very jolly.
According to emergency physicians across the nation, this condition is more common this time of the year because of the added stress of the season can sometimes bring, and it can even put people in the emergency room.
Holiday heart is an irregular heartbeat that can occur in people who are generally healthy. It can occur because of stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, and excessive intake of alcohol and caffeine.
If you want to avoid this phenomenon, physicians offer some common-sense advice: Get exercise and stay active to help reduce your stress levels; don't overindulge on rich foods; get a routine checkup now that the holiday season has begun; drink alcohol only in moderation, but drink plenty of water; get organized and don't procrastinate on those seasonal tasks; keep your gifts simple to help relieve stress; and get plenty of sleep.
