Providence Tarzana (Calif.) Medical Center announced Gerald “Jerry” Clute will return to the hospital as its new chief executive.

Since 2009, the 62-year-old Clute had held the president and CEO job at California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles. He's the former COO at Tarzana Medical Center and left the hospital 10 years ago. Clute will return to Tarzana and start his new job on Dec. 17. He replaces Dale Surowitz, who was named COO at Providence Health & Services' Southern California division.

“Jerry is a respected and longtime member of the Los Angeles healthcare community with a stellar leadership track record,” Surowitz said in a news release. “He has been successful in expanding access to healthcare and raising the caliber of care and service to the community.”

Surowitz stayed on as chief executive in 2008 after Providence purchased Tarzana Medical Center from Tenet Healthcare Corp. for $89 million.
