The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, the Ann Arbor, Mich., professional association for hospital chief information officers, is looking for someone from the CIO ranks to serve as its new president and CEO, saying in a news release it will "create a new strategic leadership role to guide the organization's future growth."

Current CHIME President and CEO Rich Correll, who has been with the organization for 20 years, "will continue to provide leadership to the CHIME staff and the organization as CHIME's chief operating officer," said Drexel DeFord, CHIME board chairman and CIO of Steward Health Care System, Boston, in an e-mailed news release. "Based on the unprecedented need for HIT in supporting the transformation of healthcare delivery and payment reform, the current CHIME Board of Directors is pursuing the addition of a new CIO leadership role."

CHIME recently celebrated its 20th anniversary at its 2012 Fall CIO Forum in Indian Wells, Calif.

Correll said in the release that the CHIME Board "worked with me in this decision, which I wholeheartedly supported."

"With the tremendous attention now on HIT, it is certain to be timely and beneficial for CHIME to add an experienced CIO to serve in the role of CHIME's ambassador to the healthcare industry," he said. "As CHIME has grown in size, the operational management function has also grown, and I will be pleased to focus my attention in that area and to work with our staff in harnessing operations in support of the direction taken by the new CEO and the board."

The CHIME board will begin immediately its search for a new leader. It aims to announce the selection during CHIME's spring forum, held in conjunction with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's annual convention in March.
