In a video news interview from the Democratic National Convention, Service Employees International Union President Mary Kay Henry says SEIU members and Democrats are fired up to promote the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as a core reason to reelect President Barack Obama. Henry also says Republicans have blocked progress on SEIU-favored rules before the National Labor Relations Board, but that the union has found ways to go around the stalled board in reaching agreements with state legislatures and hospital chains HCA and Tenet Health Corp. Modern Healthcare named Henry one of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare for 2009.
