Two other executives will also replace Townsend in her role heading the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans and Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Dr. Juzar Ali was appointed interim CEO of the Interim LSU Public Hospital and will continue to work as CMO of the hospital and Kim Sangari was named interim CEO of Earl K. Long, according to the release.

The changes follow the replacement in August of Dr. Fred Cerise as head of the LSU Health system; according to the Associated Press Cerise had disagreed with Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration over cuts that stripped hundreds of millions of dollars from the LSU safety net healthcare system. Cerise was replaced by Frank Opelka, who was named executive vice president for healthcare and medical education redesign, according to AP.
