Nominations for Modern Healthcare's
20th annual Spirit of Excellence Awards are now open. The awards, co-sponsored by Sodexo Health Care Services, honor organizations that go beyond what's expected in serving their patients and communities.
The five award categories for 2012 are:
The Community Spirit Award, which recognizes effective community education, support and outreach programs.
The Patient Safety Spirit Award, which recognizes strategies and procedures that improve the safety of care for patients.
The Process Improvement Spirit Award, which recognizes efforts to increase efficiency and productivity without sacrificing performance.
The Service Spirit Award, which recognizes excellence in service to patients and residents.
And the Team Spirit Award, which recognizes programs that recruit and retain individuals dedicated to compassion, accountability, respect, enthusiasm and service.
Modern Healthcare, with the assistance of an outside panel of judges, will recognize winners and honorable mentions in each of the five categories. Per editorial policy, award sponsors are not involved in the judging or determination of award recipients. Each of the five winners will receive a cash award of $5,000, and each of the five honorable mentions will receive a $1,500 cash prize, courtesy of Sodexo.

The submission deadline has been extended to Oct. 24. Submissions must be sent electronically to
spirit@modernhealthcare.com.
All awardees will be contacted prior to the Dec. 17 issue of Modern Healthcare, which will announce and profile all 10 of the recipients in a special section.
