Bill Sheriff, CEO of Brookdale Senior Living, Brentwood, Tenn., is planning to retire. A search for a new CEO is under way.
Sheriff, 69, will remain at the helm of the publicly traded company until a successor is in place. He will continue to serve on the board of directors and as a consultant, according to a news release
Sheriff became CEO in 2006 after Brookdale's merger with American Retirement Corp., where he had served as chairman and CEO since 1984. He previously held a number of management positions at Ryder Systems.
Internal and external candidates will be considered for the CEO position, and an executive recruiting firm is aiding in the search, according to the release.
Brookdale currently operates 647 continuing-care retirement centers and independent-living, assisted-living and dementia-care communities in 35 states, according to the news release.
