GHX, a Louisville, Colo.-based healthcare technology company focused on supply-chain management, has acquired an implantable medical-device tracking technology from Implanet, a French device manufacturer.
GHX is not disclosing the financial terms of the deal to acquire the technology, according to Derek Smith, executive vice president of marketing and product management for GHX. The technology, which tracks a device from purchase to use at the point of care, is currently deployed at 40 hospitals in France.
It can be used to support recalls, stock and inventory management, and regulatory and compliance efforts,
GHX said in a news release (PDF).
The technology is expected to complement the Food and Drug Administration's unique device identifier, a tracking system for medical devices, when it goes into effect, Smith said. Last week,
three lawmakers requested that the Office of Management and Budget issue the delayed rule on the unique device identifier.
