Telecommunications giant Telus expanded its reach into Canada's healthcare information technology market after its healthcare division, Telus Health Solutions, announced it had acquired Wolf Medical Systems, a Canadian IT vendor that specializes in cloud-based electronic health-record systems for physician practices. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
According to a news release from Vancouver, British Columbia-based Telus, Wolf Medical Systems will become Telus Physician Solutions. Dr. Brendan Byrne, founder, president and CEO of Wolf Medical Systems has been named a vice president and will lead the new physician-focused arm of the company.
“Dr. Byrne's team of more than 75 EMR professionals, paired with the depth and resources of Telus, will allow for the rapid expansion of capabilities uniquely directed at the physician market,”
the company said in the release.
