University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, named
Dr. John Warner as CEO for UT Southwestern Hospitals.
Warner, 46, starts as CEO on Feb. 1, and officials credited him with the plan and design of an $800 million, 460-bed UT hospital scheduled to open in 2015. Warner replaces Sharon Riley, who left in October 2010, and the post has been vacant since.
“I am confident that under Dr. Warner's leadership, our University Hospitals will focus on achieving the highest standards of clinical excellence, quality outcomes, volume growth and cost-efficient operations that are essential for our future,” said Dr. Bruce Meyer, executive vice president of health system affairs for UT Southwestern Medical Center. “Dr. Warner will work closely with medical center leadership, faculty and the entire staff of our hospitals to achieve these goals.”
An interventional cardiologist by training, Warner served as assistant vice president for hospital planning for UT Southwestern Medical Center. The medical center includes a 466-bed hospital in Dallas, clinics and three degree-granting institutions: a medical school, graduate school of biomedical sciences and school of health professions. UT Southwestern Hospitals runs the clinical aspects of the organization, overseeing the hospital and clinics.
