Temple University Hospital named John Kastanis as interim CEO to succeed Sandra Gomberg, who stepped down in December. Kastanis, whose appointment was effective Dec. 19, was previously president and CEO of the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York. Kastanis will help “guide the hospital toward long-term financial stability,”
according to a news release announcing his appointment (PDF).
“John is well-acquainted with the challenges and opportunities involved in TUH's marketplace,” Larry Kaiser, senior executive vice president for Health Sciences of Temple University and president and CEO of Temple University Health System, said in the release. “He will work closely with Health System, Hospital, and medical staff leadership to invest in medical services and technologies, to grow market share, to continue the recruitment of top-notch physicians, and to reinvigorate Temple's community-physician network,” said Kaiser, who is also dean of Temple University School of Medicine. Ages for Gomberg and Kastanis were not available at deadline.
