People with physical disabilities who become largely homebound in central Indiana are able to receive high-quality, cost-effective medical care thanks in part to INHouse Primary Care's house-call program, launched in June 2007.
For its accomplishments, INHouse earned an honorable mention in the Spirit of Excellence Awards' Service category.
The agency, based in McCordsville, Ind., sends a nurse practitioner to check on patients, making sure they are taking their medications and managing chronic conditions and, hopefully, this will decrease their likelihood of emergency room visits and hospital stays.
To date, the program has shown an improvement of 73.7% in medication compliance and a decrease in ER visits and hospital admissions by 89.9%, significantly reducing costs related to those types of events, according to the agency.
