George Mills has been named director of the Joint Commission's newly created department of engineering. Mills previously served as senior engineer for the Joint Commission's Standards Interpretation Group.
According to a
news release from the Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based accreditation organization, the engineering department will address matters related to “engineering, environment-of-care matters, Life Safety Code regulations, and emergency preparedness and response.”
“George's expertise in how the physical environment impacts healthcare quality and safety will be important in the Joint Commission's efforts to introduce new knowledge that benefits accredited organizations and the patients they serve,” Dr. Ana Pujols McKee, the Joint Commission's executive vice president and chief medical officer, said in the release.
Before joining the Joint Commission, Mills served as the director of codes and compliance for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. He is also a past president of the Healthcare Engineers Society of Northern Illinois.
