Telephones at 33-bed Seton Smithville (Texas) Regional Hospital are out of service because of a wildfire in nearby Bastrop, according to parent
Seton Healthcare Family, Austin, Texas.
Seton, which until July 1 was called Seton Family of Hospitals, hasn't heard of any of its other hospitals being affected by the fires burning in the state, according to a spokesman.
Seton Smithville's main line has been forwarded to a single mobile phone, and the hospital has experienced some staffing issues because of evacuations in areas where employees live. Bastrop (Texas) Medical Center, part of Seton Smithville, closed because of the staffing problem.
Bastrop County officials have assured Seton that the Smithville hospital is not threatened by the fire and no evacuation plans are being made, according to Seton. Smithville joined the system July 1, with Seton
operating the hospital as part of a 30-year lease.
