A topping-off ceremony was held July 5 to commemorate the placement of the final 1,200-pound steel beam in the new 12-story, 349-bed Kaiser Permanente Oakland (Calif.) Medical Center, scheduled to open in 2014.
Kaiser would not disclose the cost of the project, but the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development provided a figure of $450 million.
The project includes a medical office building, cancer center and parking garage that were completed in 2009, according to a news release. Also planned for the site are a medical office building with 99 offices, six outpatient operating rooms and seven outpatient procedure rooms.
