An April 4 groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of construction for a $4 million, 9,000-square-foot addition at 24-bed Hoopeston (Ill.) Regional Health Center, which is expected to be completed in June 2012. The facility is a critical-access hospital, which also has 75 skilled-nursing beds. The addition will house a surgery suite, emergency department and four medical/surgical beds, according to a news release. Another 2,500 square feet will be renovated as surgery and emergency support space. St. Louis-based design-build firm HBE Corp. is providing architecture, construction and engineering work for the project.
