It also advances public safety and health by helping to speed innovations and products that make drugs more affordable, safe and effective, as well as getting the public the information they need to use those drugs. The organization has been getting recent attention for its fast-track approval process for medical devices, which researchers say may lead to more frequent high-risk device recalls. Tobacco and the manufacturing, distribution and marketing of its products also fall under the FDA's authority.
