Aiming to broaden its scope to encompass all clinical documentation within patient health records, the Medical Transcription Industry Association has changed its name to the Clinical Documentation Industry Association.
“The technology used to capture information is changing rapidly, and the methodologies are increasing in scope and number,” CDIA board Chairman Noel Bambrough said in a reception to launch the new brand at the HIMSS 2011 annual conference Monday evening. The CDIA name change reflects the association's desire to be a healthcare industry resource dedicated to the entire clinical documentation process, from report creation through coding and billing, he said.
Officially recognized as the MTIA in 1993,
the association is based in Modesto, Calif. As the CDIA, it will continue to promote the value of clinical narratives as tools for capturing patient information that can be tagged and repurposed to meet electronic health-record system meaningful-use criteria, according to a news release.
