Obama administration health officials announced $250 million for the establishment of “new access points,” facilities dedicated to primary-care services for the underserved that mirror community health centers.
“These funds reflect the administration's steadfast commitment to improving and expanding access to vital primary healthcare services,” HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a written statement. “From our cities to our smallest towns, each health center has an important role to play, ensuring access to services in its community.”
Eligible organizations include public and not-for-profit groups, including tribal and faith-based community organizations, and that meet health center funding requirements.
The grants, created by the new health reform law, will be awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration.
