President Barack Obama has announced $795 million in new loans and grants to aid in expanding broadband telecommunications capabilities to hospitals, schools and homes.
The Commerce and Agriculture departments will oversee the
66 projects. Funding for the loans and grants, announced July 2, comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Among the grant recipients is Iowa Health System, which will receive $17.7 million to help upgrade a fiber-optic network that provides connections to more than 200 healthcare facilities in the state and improve access to broadband service for residents and businesses.
