Healthcare software company e-MDs said physician Michael Stearns, the Austin, Texas-based company's president and CEO, will serve as the board president of the newly formed Texas e-Health Alliance, or TeHA. The not-for-profit TeHA was established to bring together health information technology stakeholders to serve as a resource for Texas policymakers.

Stearns, 51, will work with Vice President Cindy Hielscher, who serves as the global public sector health industry director for Accenture; and Secretary/Treasurer Ted Haynes, vice president for healthcare delivery for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, as officers for the new organization. The director of TeHA is Nora Belcher, who had served as senior health policy director for Texas Gov. Rick Perry, according to a spokesman for e-MDs.

“Our primary goal is to provide thoroughly vetted, stakeholder-agnostic recommendations to HIT policymakers in the state of Texas,” Stearns said in a news release about his position with the new alliance. “We will also promote related HIT initiatives that target improvements in the quality and efficiency of healthcare in a way this is safe, secure and protected,” he added. “One in every 12 Americans live in Texas, making this a unique opportunity for our member organizations to play a role in healthcare policy decisions.”

According to e-MDs, Stearns has 15 years of experience in clinical and academic medicine and more than 10 years experience in the HIT industry.
