To inspire children, teens and adults to make healthier life choices—on issues such as healthy eating, physical activity, smoking, drug abuse, stress management and conflict resolution—Kaiser Permanente has offered an educational theater program since 1985 built on evidence-based prevention education.
Created in conjunction with medical professionals, community leaders, theater professionals and others, the free performances have reached more than 12 million people, including more than 500,000 kindergartners through 12th graders in 1,883 schools in 2008 alone.
“Their creative use of music, live theater comedy and drama to inspire children, teens and adults to make healthier choices is so original,” says community category judge Sandra Gordon. “Being creative, having fun, and getting healthier at the same time … it doesn't get any better.”
