The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality awarded a $48,000 research development conference grant to the American Health Information Management Association Foundation to hold a two-day summit on health information technology and rural settings.

The AHIMA Foundation, AHIMA's philanthropic arm, plans to hold the conference in April 2010 in Washington. The summit is based on a project, dubbed “Setting a Quality Improvement Health Services Research Agenda to Leverage Health Information Technology/Health Information Management Implementation in Rural America.” AHIMA said it hopes the conference facilitates research collaborations.

The conference aims to discuss the economic and strategic impact of health IT on various quality-improvement initiatives, current challenges and research in quality efforts, and create a research agenda to focus on gaps in current studies.
