Hospitals' $200M conundrum

After Sen. Edward Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last year, his surgeons first operated and then sent him off for proton-beam treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital. He could have gotten this cutting-edge care at any one of seven facilities, including locations in Oklahoma City, Houston and Jacksonville, Fla.—but not in New York.
