Healthcare products manufacturer Kimberly-Clark Corp., Dallas, has acquired Montreal-based medical-device maker Baylis Medical Co.'s pain-management division for an undisclosed amount, according to a news release.
The acquisition includes minimally invasive radio-frequency devices used in the management of spinal pain. The deal, which aims to improve Kimberly-Clark's competitive position in the $2 billion annual global market for spinal-pain-management devices, is part of the company's efforts to invest in the high-growth, high-margin medical device market, according to Kimberly-Clark President Joanne Bauer.
Kimberly-Clark has been Baylis Medical's exclusive U.S. distributor since 2001. Baylis will retain its interventional cardiology and radiology device businesses.
