Project Title: Methodist Stone Oak Hospital
Project Location: San Antonio, Texas
Type of Construction: New Hospital/New Construction
Size (GSF): New: 400,000
Cost: $110,000,000
About the Project:
Methodist Healthcare System and HCA engaged HOK to plan and implement the first new general hospital in San Antonio since 1990. Referred to as the "medical center of the future" by system an official, the new medical center has 132 beds and a full range of inpatient and outpatient services with the potential to expand to 350 beds.
The design reflects the need to think differently about how hospitals are organized. The potentials of improved care, greater efficiency, and a superior patient environment were achieved by bringing together the best patient care ideas with design concepts that support them.
Centers of Excellence are organized along a sunlit Mall where key campus programs are easily identified both through the architecture and with clear signage.
The MOBs and the procedure arenas linked to the Centers of Excellence are designed to accommodate phased growth that can be implemented with minimal capital investment and without affecting operations.
State-of- the-art canted rooms orient patients to the window and enable an area for family in the room that will not interfere with the space needed for necessary equipment and nursing staff.
The overall design serves to enhance patient accommodation and safety.
