Modern Healthcare and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society are pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s CEO IT Achievement Award. The 2007 winners are: Alan Aviles, president and chief executive officer of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.; John Ferguson, president and CEO of Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center; and Michael Murphy, president and CEO of Sharp HealthCare, San Diego.
The trio brings to 12 the number of CEOs who have received the award, which was created in 2003. Two executives were honored in 2003; three in 2004; three in 2005; and one in 2006.
The award recognizes healthcare industry CEOs who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to using information technology to advance their organizations’ strategic goals. A four-judge panel—consisting of one CEO chosen by
Modern Healthcare and three chief information officers chosen by HIMSS—selected Aviles, Ferguson and Murphy from a pool of 68 nominees.
Modern Healthcare and HIMSS announced the fifth annual CEO IT Achievement Award competition on Feb. 5, and the deadline for submissions was March 26. The judges evaluated the nomination in mid-April with the three winners determined on April 23.
Modern Healthcare will profile this year’s recipients in a special section to be published in the June 25 issue of the magazine. The trio also will be honored at a breakfast ceremony held in conjunction with the HIMSS annual summer summit on June 26 in San Diego.
